Colin Gray

The Podcast Host

Colin is a podcaster, a founder, a speaker and a PhD in online learning.

Since 2007, he’s been teaching entrepreneurs and educators how to grow an audience through content, particularly with podcasting. His company, The Podcast Host, teaches businesses how to nurture trust through the combined power of quality and consistency, and how podcasting, blogging and video work together to foster fanatical fans.

He and his team run a network of shows, from Podcraft to Hostile Worlds. They teach how to Podcast inside the Podcast Host Academy, and provide the tools to do it in the form of Alitu, the original podcast maker app. Outside work, you can usually find him on the nearest mountain biking trail, or vainly attempting to wrangle his kids on an ill-fated camping trip.

Janet Murray

the janet murray show

Janet Murray launched her podcast back in 2015. With over one million downloads, The Janet Murray Show frequently tops the UK Apple Podcasts charts for business & marketing.  It is currently number 1 in the Chartable marketing podcasts.

Janet’s podcast has been instrumental in helping her build a large and engaged online audience. This has allowed her to build a multi-six figures business selling online courses and coaching, including her popular Build Your Online Audience Programme. It also helps her sell out her live events and a physical product – the 2020 Social Media Diary & Planner.

Janet believes the intimacy of podcasting – the fact you’re quite literally in someone’s earbuds – helps you build a closer relationship with prospective clients/customers. Which is why it can be such an effective way to attract leads and sales for your business.

"If anyone can teach you how to launch a successful podcast, Janet can."

With over a million downloads under her belt, Janet regularly tops the UK iTunes charts for business and marketing. I think those results speak for themselves. She is AMAZEBALLS. So if you need to learn how to make a podcast, build an engaged audience - and monetise that audience - Janet HAS to be your go-to person.

Andrew and Pete, The Andrew and Pete Show

"Janet is my go-to person for consistent, high-quality podcast content"

I've always been so impressed by Janet's commitment to producing consistent quality content, and particularly when it comes to her podcast. There are plenty of courses out there that can teach you the tech, but Janet teaches how to create amazing content consistently. And how to do really great interviews. When it comes to these things, Janet is my go-to person!

Any questions? answers here

The course starts during the week beginning 20th January 2020. Live classes will be generally held on Tuesdays at 1pm (GMT). You will receive a replay of all the classes – alongside resources given out in the class e.g. cheatsheets, checklists, swipe files. So there is no need to worry if you can’t attend live.

There are a couple of essential things you’ll need to run your podcast:
  1. Podcast hosting (around £15 / $19 per month)
  2. A microphone (around £50/$60)
Everything else you can get for free, including recording software, editing software and artwork, but here are a few things you might want to add to your shopping list:
  1. High quality recording tools (around £15 / $20 per month)
  2. Professional artwork (up to £200 / $270)
  3. Extra microphone for in-person interviews (around £70 / $70)
  4. Podcast-specific editing tools (around £20 / $28 per month)
  5. Theme music (around £15 / $20)
  6. Professionally produced intro and outro (around £150 / $200)
Please note that these are just estimates. You may be able to get all of these items for less.

We’ll be teaching every lesson live, but you’ll know everything you need to know by week 6 – or around the 40 day mark. After that it’s 2 weeks of implementation and a big Q&A ‘troubleshooting’ session in week 8. So, if you’re ready to go during week 7 or 8, you’re welcome to launch early!

Colin has helped to launch 100s of podcasts over the past 10 years, though, and in his experience, 40 to 60 days is an ideal length of time. Not so short that’s it’s super pressured, and not so long that you lose motivation. It’s very, very hard to do a good job, from scratch, in less time.

Good question. In an ideal world, you’d do all three. It’s possible to create a blog, a podcast and a video all in one content creation activity.

But, in reality, it’s good to concentrate on one, at first, and build out from there. Podcasting is a great started point for a few reasons:

  • The gear and software required for podcasting is much simpler than video
  • You can record with a script/outline in podcasting, allowing for easier planning and creation
  • Competition is lower in podcasting than video or blogging
  • The attention is amazing in podcasting – people listen for literally hours at a time
  • Podcasting is an intimate, one-to-one medium that grows fanatical fans quickly
  • It works brilliantly alongside blogging, since you’ll be creating shownotes too
  • Eight weeks of online training (modules outlined above). Classes are taught live
  • Recordings of all classes/calls
  • Bonus sessions on running great interviews, repurposing your podcast & being a great podcast guest
  • Dedicated Facebook group for Q & A and support

Yes, Colin and Janet both work with a few different podcasting and media creation tools, so we’ll be getting as many discounts for you as we can on things like podcast hosting, editing software and more.

Every live lesson will be recorded so if you have to miss one, or more than one, you can always look back and watch them in your own time.

You’ll still get all the resources that go with the lessons, and you can ask questions in the private Facebook community that goes along with this course.

There is a private Facebook group for students hat have purchased the course, where you can ask questions, get feedback and assistance.

You will have access to the course for a year from your purchase date.

Our aim is to make this as simple and easy as possible, and it’s entirely possible to make a podcast without taking on any really techie work at all. We’ll show you how to edit, easily, and how to record in a simple way. Janet is the first to admit she’s not super techie…so if she can do it, anyone can!

Each week, there’s a 90 minute live session, and then you should plan for another 2 to 2.5 hours of work in your own time. You can allocate more if you like, but that’s a safe minimum.

That means around 3-4 hours, per week, throughout the course. With that investment of one morning, or one afternoon, each week, for 8 weeks, we can make sure you get that show live, and out into the world, by March.

Please be advised that we don’t offer refunds, so please read the course description carefully and email us on [email protected] with any questions you have before buying so you can ensure you’re making the right decision.

From Planning to Live!

This isn't just theory. We'll plan for success, and guide you through the ACTION, even if you don't have an idea yet.

Extinguish those Tech Worries

We'll give you a simple shopping list for gear & software, and show you exactly how to use it. No more tech headaches.
